Would the Americans use the atomic bombs against Germany?

Let's say that the German resistance in the final months of WW2 had made it extremely difficult and costly for the Allies to reach Berlin and defeat the Third Reich once and for all. Would the US use the atomic bombs against German cities? Or the fact that Germany was a European country would prevent them from doing so?

I doubt believe so.
One thing is to drop the bomb in Japan, an isolated archipelago in the Pacific Ocean, considerably far away from US allies. Another thing would be droping the bomb in an european country (with all that represents in the minds of the western people), that share a border with France, Austria and Belgium.

I don't believe it would get to the use of the atomic bomb.

Depends on the circumstances, if the allies hadn't crossed the channel yet and the soviets hadn't made it through Poland then probably. If the allies had advanced to the Rhine and Elbe then probably not, they were almost victorious. One of the main reasons it was dropped on Japan was because America had a massive amphibious invasion to pull off (larger and more difficult than Normandy), so bombing them into submission was a good alternative.

Agree with the Panzer above. If say the allies hadn't, or didn't want to land in europe, and the eastern front was at its worst in Europe, then they would probably have dropped it to "save lives" and shorten the war. But with Germany on the verge of collapse? Probably not. Maybe as a revenge bombing, but still, the bombs are not cheap and they were more needed in the pacific.

Nonsense! It was built for use against the Germans because it was feared the Germans might it first! If it was strategically necessary, you bet they would have used it!

I understood the question as if the americans would use the bomb in the same circunstances they used it against Japan.
If that was really the question, i mantain my answer.

The situation was unlikely to arise. The US was sole opponent of Japan in the Central Pacific. (Australian troops were involved in New Guinea and the British in SE Asia). It was for the US to decide whether the A bomb should be used on Japan. The US would not be the only power in Europe to decide whether to use the bomb. If the war had not ended and the British and the USSR agreed it was the best way to end the war, it might have been used, but its not clear it would have ended the war if Hitler survived in his bunker. The damage inflicted on Berlin by the Soviet's 41,600 artillery units exceeded any damage a 15 kiloton bomb could have done.

Define difficult - It cost the Soviets 350,000 killed and wounded just to take Berlin

True, the US built it (with allied help) out of fear the Germans would get the bomb first. But would the US use it first? How realistic is the possibility of German nuclear retaliation? The US did not realize how badly the German nuclear program failed until after they invaded German territory, so could the US use the bomb without full knowledge of Germany's retaliation capability? Just because Germany had not used the bomb by the summer of '45 (just to pick a date, we could just as easily use another date) might Germany finish their bomb in a month or two and retaliate against London or some other city? It would have been very difficult for the US to know for certain that Germany could never retaliate in kind.
