Yes, Pearse sought to put his rising on a par with Christ's rising. However, I don't think Christ led an armed uprising.

I've felt that he let the raising go down, he left for London when he heard the arms shipment was sunk, leaving Winborne and Nathan holding the bag, so to speak, when the raising went down. He either sympathized with the Volunteers or it was his exit strategy as he never liked Dublin.

He was fool who in fairness had tried to resign but wasn't allowed to. He was sympathetic to Nationalists but the Rising must have made him feel betrayed, all of Unionism's fears proven true.

So letting the raising go down was his 'exit strategy'. He wasn't a fool in my book, in fact he ended the strand off between Ulster and the South.

What was your opinion on my view on my view on Birrell? In the ballpark or totally off base.

He didn't 'let' it go down, it certainly ended the standoff, it pitched our country into a vicious civil war which killed thousands.
