This is an open invitation to members from Germany to inform us about their country from their inside point of view. I find it much more interesting than distant newspaper articles, and far more direct.
What I am looking for here is information about the pulse of the country, the day-to-day concerns, cultural details and those intimate trivia that only an inhabitant of a country would know in depth, but fail to become generally known by the international media.
Anyone with knowledge of the country is welcome to post his insight, and of course, anyone with questions regarding it also.
If this thread is successful, I intend to create similar threads for other countries and people (the UK, USA, Israel, Turkey, the Scots, etc., counting on the respective country's members).
Let's get to know each other better.
These are the comments, from another thread, that excited my interest initially: Quote:

I understand the joke part about the Swiss and Austrians, but I sense you are for real when referring to the Bavarians. Why? What is going on with them?

I just want to express my love toward Bavaria in particular. I like Bavaria for three reasons:
1. The most important one is the beer, i like Bavarian beer.
2. Im a Bayern Munchen fan since the 90's
3. I like the traditional bavarian outfit.
Also i want to say something to Solidaire. It is a very nice idea about thread Solidaire, its a way to learn new things about people from different countries, a way to say what we know about them, and ask additional questions
Well done, for the idea.

Hate is perhaps not the right word. Just a little quarrel between the bavarians and the Prussians. Prussians are all north of Main. And for us in the north with the Main river begins Africa.

I was under the impression that Prussia (historically) was further up north, near the Baltic. But, of course, you know better. Quote:

That would make the Kilimanjaro a peak of the Alps, lol.
Jokes aside, what does this really mean? Is there a specific view (if any) hidden behind this?

The first thing that come to my mind is beer, when the subject is Germany.
Then German dicipline and quality. mercedes, BMW.
I am curious about this thread, thanks for opening Solidaire.

I like the Bavarians. I guess they are the "rednecks" of Germany?
Just good, down to Earth country folks. I always got on fine with them.

I expect kimi will be along in a moment to tell us that the Germans are not really as efficient as eveyone supposes; though that is certainly the most prominent stereotype about them in the UK.
