Actually that was a horrible period for soviet Germans. Everybody hated them.
My teacher (German) could enter University only after Stalin's death.
Mr. Rossel, the Governor of Yekaterinburg (3d biggest city of Russian Federation) confessed recently that he tried to kill himself several times just because he was a German.

It's very far from from being really happened. Neither it was a short period for Germans (Nobel Prize Andre Geim has a quite different opinion) nor for Germans only (dozen of minority suffered from Soviet (actually Russian) segregation like Jews etc).

Oh give me a break! Losers who failed exams always said so.
Jews could hold posts at all the levels of the USSR even in Politburo, the highest governing body of the USSR.

You laughable with your lousy propaganda.

Nobel Prize Andre Geim is a loser and there was no segregation in USSR... Ask someone what did mean the expression "fifth paragraph" in Soviet passport at least.

He is a German. Not a Jew. If you read carefully you'll find that I already wrote about problems Germans had.

Well,I vistited Yugoslavia (Zagreb and Belgrade) in November 1990. It was horrible; you could cut the air with a knife and there was nothing to buy(and I had US dollars) The people seemed a bit tense to me. I knew nothing of the ethnic tensions of the country at that time.

I was told that Yugoslavia was probably the most progressive of the Eastern block countries. I remember thinking:" Good grief! What must the others be like?"

Also visited the Philippines in 1979. Marcos was still in power. All the Filipinos I knew were connected in some way to the regime. Had time of my life! Marcos being replaced by Cory Aquino meant business usual.

TANGENT :

My views later change, at home. I began hearing about Liberation theology and the murders on Negros where I had spent Xmas. I felt sick when I realised that the murderers were almost certainly people I knew. These were the members of the few heavily intermarried families who owned all of the sugar and most of the land. Many lived in large compounds,in the old Spanish hacienda manner.

Why should I ask? I lived in the USSR and I am able to distinguish reality from tales.

"The discrimination against Jews in Soviet Union is a combination of all the basic forms of discrimination existing in the other countries of the diaspora, and includes official discrimination:
a) There are percentage norms limiting acceptance to higher education institutions and limiting employment opportunities
b) ...
c) ...
d) ...
..."
A Documentary history of Communism in Russia: from Lenin to Gorbachev By Robert Vincent Daniels.

And please reread previous posts using something more then those translate services. I've never claim that Andre Geim is a Jew. Quite opposite. It was about "short period".
