I don't think he really did, because I can't see any reason why they would want to keep it a secret if he did. I mean, if twins are born, one is still born first, so that one is the heir. I can't see why it would be any more difficult than the heir having an ordinary younger brother. Besides, with high infant mortality in those days, the more sons the better.
