The thing was that during the 16-18'th century the Polish king could not wage war by law without the acceptance of the Polish sejm (And most of the nobles who sat in the sejm did not wanna pay extra taxes for experimental sea adventures), so the only way for the Poles to gain any colonies was through their "vassal" states such as Courland and this worked well but due to lack of interest and the wars in Poland there was simply no time for such adventures.
Plus the Poles already had their colony "Ukraine" to take care of.
