It ended?

Has anybody told Argentina this?

Has anybody told Britain too?

Now, in the news, there's so much tut-tutting about some irrelevant Argie athletics video ad about the Olympics, it makes me wonder if there's going to be a reopening of hostilities over some minor TV propaganda....

In regards to the official papers, as mentioned, i doubt anyone knows. I have try doing a google search on it and came up with nothing. I'm not sure what reason Whitehall would have for delaying the release. I can only think of two reasons. Either theres somthing in there they don't want people to know about, especially when there people alive who can be held to account. Or they may feel it may be to upsetting for those who were there.

I think the war itself is largely forgotten by the general public. I think for the most part those who do remember the war support it. It certainly didn't raise the protests that the war in Iraq did. Many people tody seem surprised at the size of the British force down there. Some people don't even seem to know where it is. One friend thought the Islands were just off the South coats on England. Each time i have been down there i have meet surprise that the Islands are still protected.

Prior to 82 i think most people had not heard of the Falklands. Since the end of Empire it had become a bit of a backwater. Until the recent events with Argentina kicking up a fuss, i think it had been forgotten again. I believe, at least i hope, that most Brits would support the rights of the Islanders and should it ever come to war again would support British troops defending the Island, thats assuming we have any troops left.

I think Britain is fully aware that the war is over. There has been no increase in the garrison down there and we are simply reacting to Argentianin provocations. Not sure about this TV you mention, i haven't seen it on the news yet.

On the subject of not knowing where it is i'm reading John Nichols and Tony Rennels 'medic' at the moment and its quite funny the way the guys going down their reacted, nobody having a clue where the Falklands were except a few who reckoned it was one of the Shetland islands, then somebody pointing out it was in the South Atlantic and everybody cheered up because they reckoned they would sail down to the equator, work on their tans and put their feet up for a few weeks then the diplomats would cave in and they'd all come home again.

That cunning plan didnt quite work!

LiveLeak.com - Argentine ad disrespects british war memorial

Somebody from Argentina sent over one of their athletes and a cameraman to run round Port Stanley at some obscene hour of the morning when nobody else was awake.

It was more the slogan that finished it 'to compete on English soil we train on Argentine soil'

ie the Falklands are ours, added to the various comments by CLK and the statements from the Belgrano memorial that the mission to the Malvinas is unfinished business then you can see wh the diplomats are paying attention.

Try tuning into Sky News now, where the reporter is trying to press a Tory minister (Hammond?) into banning Argentina from the Olympics for that ad....

Three times during the BBC Breakfast News, during the sports report, they went on and on about it....

Well i am more of a BBC news man myself. But i goggled the ad and found some info on it. Not sure about banning the Argie team from the Olympics, but i think customs should refuse entry to that ********.

He gains entry to the Islands by prentending he is taking part in a marathon being run by the Vets from both countries. Apart form anything else, this is disrepectful to the war vets from his own country, to use them for propganda, which is all this is.

And apparently there is a scene where he is in front of the WW1 memorial.

At least he had the sense not to do it infront of the memorial to the British dead from the war his country started.
