The war was justified only for two countries: Serbia and Belgium, the were victims of aggression.

My grandfather and great-uncle were conscripted by the Austrian army. Very fortunately neither of them were seriously wounded in action.

Blood being thicker than water, our family was on the side of the Triple Alliance.

I side with the Central Powers. The destruction of the Russian, French, and British Empires would be a blessing on the oppressed peoples of the world in 1914. It would be high time for the major colonial aggressors to get a taste of their own medicine on their home soil.

I don't take sides, it would only cloud my objectivity. (which is not always the best in the world :P )

Getting rid of one, two and three only too replace it with four, five and.... The Germans did have their own colonies in Africa and the Pacific. Their winning the conflict would have changed nothing for the far flung residents of empire, except for a few. Only in having it replace the dominance of the others with the dominance of Germany and it's allies? There would have been no resolution satisfactory to anyone. Then again, when are we ever satisfied with what we have?

Clearly, it wouldn't follow from historical reading that the"oppressed" couldn't have cared much for the replacement of the "Currents" during that war period, other than being interested in proving their worth as fighting men and a people worthy of honor, in the European sense of the word.

Getting rid of huge Empires? I think that of all the Colonial Powers in Africa, the one which treated it's subjects the worst was Belgium!

Certainly the Germans had Colonies in Africa and the Pacific, and the Austrians were not exactly popular with the subject peoples of their Empire in Europe - hence the shooting that started the war in the first place.

I think your 'Realism', Dr, is a bit too subjective!

Certainly, I'm sure the Germans would've have treated the Empire the same as us. Anyway, I'm obviously going to side with the English considering that's where I come from.
