By adopting Christianity.
Before the end of WW2 a "Jew" was not only a manifestation of one's religious persuasion, but also an ethnicity, like any other ethnicity.
That's why in Nazi Germany they had a gradation of "Jewishness": one could be a full Jew, a half-Jew, etc.
Jews were adopting Christianity or were becoming atheists and still remained Jews.
It is only after WW2 when Zionistic lobby in US became powerful, Zionists hoisted onto the West a belief that only Judaists can be considered Jews.
But in other parts of the world Jew is still an ethnicity as well as a religious persuasion.
