I would prefer to not have overlord. Or at last to have as much independence as possible. Nationality of overlord does not matter.

Will you consider (talking as a nation here) entering into asymetrical relationships with the outside world? In particular the ones where your nation is going to be the weaker party, due to practically nothing in this world being equal.

To me it seems this is really where you're really chafing. That buyers should beware what they are signing and the relationships they enter into I should think would be unproblematic to agree with.

That is not what this post is about. People need to be first aware about unequal relations in which their state is engaged. Only then you can at last do something about it. You have to call things its proper way.

Yes exactly. We were misled in to believing we are entering equal partnership with the West and we still are mislead. We have to realise true nature of this relationship, if not it is hopeless. it is as if we were playing game where our eyes were tied and we would even not know what game we play. If is it chess or Russian roulette or something else. I am not naive, I know small countries can not be equal partners to strong. however we do not have to be just primitive colonies either.

Bye the way, ordinary people in the West are as misled as we are.

Well this is good question, the Moscow and the peoples of russia are very malevolent, the society interrogatory in Russia demonstrate, that most of the russians think that Latvia is one of most dangerouse country to Russia. We are not far from USA in this interrogatory...

But the Europe Union also not fair, in the East, West and other European counties there are to big difference between allocation of resorces and assistance... But when we abut to Union we thougt that in this uion there will be one law and thruth to all countries. But we make a slipa and the dishonest politic of Brissel now pay off- Crisis.

And I realy regret that we have no chance to live free and stay independent... If the Latvia will fall the World will lost one of the older indoeuropean language in the World... The root s of oure all will fall in darkness.
There are to many preasher from bouth sides... Oure economy have suffered from USSR destruction and also from EU conditions...

If there was some choice then I would choose last stand tactic and by my own, with oure brothers Lithuanians and Estonians...

That is correct. For the small countries these questions are not of
their status in the world but the matter of survival. Some may say, so what
if these cultures/nations cannot survive, what will be lost? In my opinion
a lot. For me personally the reindependence of the baltic states was a highlite of the late 20th century and i feel wery passionite about it.
