Odin a real person???

"The legendary Norwegian explorer, Thor Heyerdahl, is on the trail of another legend - the Viking God, Odin.
He believes Odin may have been a real king in the 1st Century BC in what is now southern Russia, before his tribe was driven out by the Romans."

This is an interesting theory. I'll be curious to see if he ever proves it one way or another.

Norse mythology is one of the most fascinating In my opinion. A giant cow called Audhumbla, dwarves jumping out of a corpse of a giant as if they were maggots, a world tree called Yggdrasil and giant hammers! What more do you want?!

Also it inspired a lot of the Stargate series

Absolutely. I find Viking culture to be pretty fascinating, especially their interactions with other people. Most of their "raping and pillaging" stuff was done when their neighbors converted to Christianity and would no longer trade with them. So, they decided just to take what they needed from them.

The article said he was on the trail of "another" legend in this case.

Has he proven a legend to be true previous to this undertaking?

Or am I just reading into this too much? lol

It's a play on his first name being Thor.

When I read these two consecutive posts my first thought was that Thor Heyerdahl was taking his research to uncharted depths.

He's no more real than King Arthur or Jesus. Based on the evidence we have, he can neither be proven nor disproved.

I would prefer him not to be real. I'm not sure why... maybe it would loose its mythical value if he was in fact a real person... : (
