How did royal families become royal in the 1st place?

How? war? land possession?

also, If the royal families only marry and reproduce between them, doesn't it mean that they have less genetic variety, making them more "weak" ?

I imagine it would go back to cavemen times and the Royals were usually the ones that had the biggest stick with which to beat their subjects with

Many ancient rulers (Egyptians, Greeks, Persians, Celts, etc) were probably just descended from chieftains who had united tribes to former bigger tribes or unified kingdoms.

Many Roman and medieval dynasties were founded by usurpers - a number of Roman emperors - e.g. Septimius Severus - were already men of great influence who siezed the opportunity fortune provided.

A lot of them proclaimed themselves leaders, usually with their army behind them. The Romans did that a lot, especially in the later years of the empire where everyone was proclaiming themselves Emperor.

Fron the Bonaparte to the Borgia, individual histories were extremely diverse; but in general terms someone got the power by any means when and where the inheritance of the position was possible.

lol

when christianity became big, alot of kings were decided as being chosen by God, and then their families down the line simply inherited that

the emperor of japan was thought to be descended from the shinto sun goddess amaterasu; the emperor was viewed as a living deity, and that was the reason for his sovereignty. btw, the shogun wasnt decided upon as a bloodline ruler, iirc, and was more like a commander-in-chief with the emperor being a figurehead, but the emperor retained his divinity

in fact, way back when, many leaders were supposedly descended from gods. gilgamesh, for instance, was two parts god and one part mortal. though he wasnt king to begin with, his divine heritage allowed him to become one. youll also see many times in greek legend that the leaders of the different city-states (such as theseus) were also demigods. in ancient egypt, iirc, the pharaoh wasnt really considered a living divinity, though he held status comparable to one and, in some cases, was deified following his death

How did royals become royals? Simply by being the nastiest, most viscous bastards around.

Or farcical aquatic ceremonies, maybe. Either way, strange women lying in ponds, distributing swords is no basis for a system of government.
