Hitler's hysterical blindness

Just watched an episode of "The Great War." in which Indy claims that Hitler suffered from hysterical blindness bought on by mustard gas, and it was this blindness that kept him hospitalized until the end of the war.

I have also found another source which claims that this may have happened, but also raises some doubts as to whether or not this happened.

We do however know the following facts:

October 15th 1918 Hitler and several of his fellow soldiers are gassed by the British and taken to a medical center. They are then transferred to a better equipped hospital away from the front lines. Hitler complains that he is now blind and cannot see, he is then transferred to the psychiatric ward of Reserve Hospital IV in Pasewalk.

He was treated by a doctor Forster who is known to have treated his patients with Auto-suggestion.

After Hitler's rise to power his medical records from this period disappeared, and some people even think he went so far as to have Forster murdered.

Hitler never did complain of eye problems again, nor did he seek any further treatment for his eyes after being discharged from Pasewalk.

Do you think he had hysterical blindness or was it caused by the mustard gas???

In my opinion I believe he did have hysterical blindness as his transfer to Pasewalk 980km behind the front lines is compliant with German policy when treating shell shocked men. (They didn't want them near regularly wounded soldiers in case there shell shock infected them)

Finally after making a full recovery he never sought treatment again seems to point to a psychological cause rather than a physical one.

Your opinions please??

That is definitely not the case, we have numerous records of his war time behavior and they all speak of his bravery. I don't think any of his political rivals ever accused him of cowardice.

As an interesting aside he was recommended for an Iron Cross by his Jewish commanding officer!!!
