Erasme a big spirit

While there were various sects and challenges to the Roman Catholic Church in Europe prior to the Reformation, if one wishes to consider Erasmus, then one must also consider Jan Hus, who preceded Erasmus. Hus was quite radical and his followers were a real challenge to the Catholic hierarchy.

Both Erasmus and Hus were forerunners of Protestantism, but remained in the Roman Catholic Church.

Erasmus disagreed with Luther about leaving the Church. Jan Hus was a Catholic priest and remained one until he was executed.
