It's amazing to me how few non-Turks realize the significance of this event. The internal struggles in Turkey since the 1840 "protection" agreements from the West, the pioneer changes in the culture of brutal suppression against any questions from the people, the move from power in the hands of the rich and "spiritually" well placed to the common Turk is a story that really needs a thread on this forum...especially considering todays modern news coverage and the lack of knowledge in the West of "Who is a Turk?"
