Where do your ancestors come from? What are some interesting facts about them?
I am Norwegian, Swedish, German, Spanish, and English. My "German" family tree dates back to 1685. The oldest man in the family tree was a huguenot that fled from Catholic Germany into Lorraine, France. His son then moved to Pennsylvania, US.

Scottish - this side of the family has been traced back to the early 16th Century.
American Indian - not entirely sure which tribes, but I suspect some Choctaw.
German - this side of the family has been in America just under a century.
Irish - a smattering of Irish blood in the German side of the family.
Jewish - I don't know if I have Jewish blood in my veins, but I consider them my spiritual family either way.

My ancestors are predominately English, with a handful of Welsh ancestors. Most of my dad's side are from Kent, with one or two from Surrey...indeed I'm doing a one-name study into the history of my paternal grandmother's surname (Twyman), as it's a relatively uncommon Kentish surname. Traced it back so far to the 1560s...probably won't get much further there, though, of course, given the absence of parish records much before that.
Allegedly my direct paternal ancestors, though, were German-Jews going back far enough, but I don't know enough about researching family history outside the UK yet to ascertain whether that's completely accurate or not. I'd like to think it's true, though.

My mother was English, according to her mother there was believed to be some Huguenot ancestry somewhere far back. My father was half Scottish and half American, but his father died before he was born and he was raised in Glasgow, so always thought of himself as Scottish. If my grandfather hadn't died, my father would have been born in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) where my grandparents had a farm. His life would have been very different.
