Hi I was wondering if the members on this forum could name two positive things their country did to the world and two negative?

I will start.

I come from the Netherlands and this is our contribution in my opinion.

Positive things:

- Dutch scientist Antoni van Leeuwenhoek was the inventor of the Microscope and so lay the foundation for Medical science

- The Dutch laid the foundation for world economics by bringing the Bank system into the world and by having the first multinational (VOC)

Negative things:

- The Dutch contributed in slavery

- The Dutch committed war crimes in the Dutch-Indies during the police actions or Indonesian war for Independence

U.S.:
Good: Produced a new form of representative govt. that has flaws, but is a fantazic piece of creative leadership

Helped push for and draft a Universal Declaration of HUman rights.

Bad: Assumes the new form of govt is flawless and should be pushed onto every culture of the world

Does little if anything to uphold the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Greece has contributed to the formation of western philosophy.
Greece has created a certain humanist form of art that liberated persons from Gods and from tyranny.

Greece has comited a massive extermination of many Bulgarians and Turks in the frontiers that it included after the Balkan wars.
Greece is still not recognizing many minorities that live inside its territory.

Invention of Penicillin? Two things, first it wasn't invented it was discovered, in 1928, secondly it was by a Scottish chemist ALEXANDER FLEMING.
