What do you think was the most important battle in history?
I am going with the battle of Platea. The reason is: it decided which civilization was going to dominate the world , Western civilization, or Eastern civilization.
If the Persians won, their influnce would have spread all over western Europe. There would have been no Roman empire to spread the Greek ideas to the world.
Democracy might not even exist today.

This is a tough one as there are so, so many important battles that literally changed the "fate" of certain nations / civlizations.
The defeat of Boudica, for example, began the final subjugation of the native Britons under the Roman yolk.

And even if it Caused to Romans to decide Britain wasn't worth it and withdrew their troops; Britain still wouldn't have been able to do much , since they were surrounded by the Roman empire.

I agree with you, ghoul31, although some would say I do because I am Greek. Anyway...
I've always been a World War II history afficionado, so what about the battle of Stalingrand? Hitler suffered a major blow there, regarding the Eastern front. I do believe it changed the course of the war.

I do believe it changed the course of the war. | The problem with that is that the US invented the A-bomb in 1945. So they still would have been able to defeat Germany.

Wasnt there a bigger battle between the persians, and greeks
I think it was the conquest of Mecca by the prophet mohammed.
What conflict was bigger over the last 1000 years than Christians vs Muslims vs jews.

For me, this is an easy question.
Battle of Tenochtitlan, 1519. Cortes could very easily have lost, which would have altered the history of the Americas greatly, since the Crown had completely different intentions (trade, missionaries, etc - not conquest) towards Montezuma than Cortes did.
