How did you learn to love history? Was it from a teacher you had in school, movies you loved to watch, or a parent that was a fanatic? Was it because youre family has a lot of history? Just looking for the different reasons why we flock to learning and studying the past.

I remember years ago a friend of mine was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, and asked if I wanted to go to a meeting. After the discussions I got hooked on the Civil War. Then about a year later while on our way back from the beach we heard there was a reenactment at Bentonville, NC. After I saw the battle I said the next time this event comes around, I'm gonna be in it. And true to my word, five years later when the next one was scheduled, i was in it. Bentonville proved to be my awakeningand just opened my mind up to history. I read my books when I can, but the internet is the easiest resource at my disposal. I can find everything from the most ancient of civilizations to the most modern gadgets available.
The advancement of human innovations just fascinates me. How far we have come is overwhelming, and how far we will decline will be equally impressive. I only hope that the existence of man does not become history.

I seen the movie Braveheart and from then on I was hooked on the Middle ages. Then when I seen Getysburg the movie, I became a Civil War buff. I find all History fascinating though.

I saw Gettysburg when I was in middle school and was fascinated, while the rest of the class was sleeping :?
And I remember seeing Braveheart when that first came out on video. I must have seen it 70+ times since.
Another movie that really got me into history was Saving Private Ryan. I guess you could say movies brought the love of history to me.

I've always been drawn more to what has happened in the past instead of what could happen in the future. I'm the type of person that loves nature and culture. I guess it instilled in me by my parents at a young age.

Well I caught on pretty young. When I was about 7, I had seen some shows about WW2 and Nazi Germany. I saw the swastika, and I liked the symbol, i thought it looked cool. (Ofcourse, Im not a racist...). A year later, my dad bought me a 5 VHS set all about WW2. Since then, Ive become a WW2 buff, mostly interested in German battle tech, guns, camo, tanks, planes, you name it. I pretty much love every aspect of WW2.

Well, it was kind of surprising for both myself and my parents as History wasn't really one of the classes I did well at during my highschool career. I guess it started when I first entered college. I started off seeking a major in Communications/Journalism and then after a while I realized it wasn't for me. I began taking other courses to just gauge my interest and attended a weekend seminar on Operation Market Garden. I didn't expect much, but hey, for one weekend I'd get credit for a full class, so why not?
Right from the start I took a deep interest not only this particular battle, but in World War 2 in general. During the lunch break I decided that I would change my major to history and my college studies have proved to be much more interesting ever since.

I have always had respect for history but didn't really learn to love it til secondary education. I had this really awesome teacher..John Pegues! He was an expert in the Cold War and several other subjects of historical signifigance. He had a passion for what he taught that made us all view him as a truly awesome Historian. What he gave me was a deep love for history and the realization that if we don't study history we are doomed to repeat it. I fear that I will never be able to repay him for what he gave me.
