And don't forget the Japanese work-ethic, these guys are insanely productive. When Japan wanted to join the WTO (iirc) the latter demanded that they'd first implement a few extra free days for their labour force because of their disproportionate productivity, the result was a spike in suicides as people couldn't cope with being forced not to work and saw this as a personal humiliation. Uncanny.

Exactly, Japan boomed until 1990. In early 90's, their GDP was more than 60% of US.


Twenty years after, it's only 30-35% The US has outpaced them.
