I think most Caribbean people are aware of the 65 riots, it really started the exodus of Chinese Jamaicans (sped up greatly in 72 forward) from Jamaica. There is a slim presence of chinese on Barry and the old spanish town roads now, as opposed to the 50's. Few Syrians to be honest as well, at least on the retail merchant side of things.

some of the syrian families are running their business in the cross roads district as well as Chinese. others are around hope road.
new kingston and uptown as well but you can find a chinese shop in almost any area of Jamaica

And lest we forget, former prime minister Edward Seaga is a 'Syrian'....

A lesson to European countries, maybe? There are countries in the Americas who have had prime ministers who are members of ethnic minorities.

i think the Syrian/middle eastern communities have earned much respect in the caribbean world.
