Television is to the mental world
what the vibrator is to the physical world.

a poor substitute for reality.

It has been a boom and a bust.
It has caused information to come into our homes and educate millions.
It has launched thousands of careers and ended just as many.
It has created millionaires of people with no talent, into recognizable names.
It has extended the careers of movie actors and killed the careers of others.
It has entertained us, it has imprisoned us.
It has changed the way we think and how we view the world.
I think the TV is here to stay.

Its had a significant impact on civil rights. Governments are a lot less willing to violently suppress their people.

I think we're a long way from knowing its full import.

Very true, that is a very good quote. I rarely watch television now

Its made the 'world smaller' and has 'educated' many for good and bad.

For good you could point to things like the BBC's Planet series (Frozen Planet etc) or such things as the Open University, even 'Horrible Histories'

For bad 'Britains got Talent' etc

It has pushed 'Image' to the fore, could FDR be elected in the USA today? (although he of course made great use of the 'new media' of the day radio)

Is TV dead as we know it last two series that I am going out of may way to watch -'Walking Dead II'' and now 'The Game of Thrones I' I am watching online.

I don't have Sky but I still watch almost all the Rugby games I want by going to 'Free' websites.

TV is definitely both good and bad, but overall I believe it's mostly good. Just think of the Nazi's with TV cameras in their face 24/7, I think WWII would have been a lot different.

In the west, we do have a choice as to what we fill our minds with - it's called freedom - and no one is forcing me (or you) to watch Jerry Springer.

TV is how you use it. It brings the world to me.

But it makes the world a smaller place and changes our daily habits.
