First off I am new here, I have always had an interest in history, I collected old National Geographic magazines growing up and really had an interest in the World Wars in high school.
I am posting this thread today to see if anyone could tell me some information on these magazine covers and other clippings I recently got. They are all from the "Saturday Evening Post" magazines, with dates from the late 30s to 50s.
A majority of the items (80+) are magazine covers, my great Grandad originally had these and they were recently given to me. I guess he had a thing for Normal Rockwell art.
Are they rare? Valuable at all? Some are in pretty good shape, some in not so good of shape. What I found cool are the ads inside the covers and other small pieces cut out, there's also a lot of war time mentioning and art in these which I had never seen. I also found a very old classified clipping from I would guess the 20s or 30s, being a car guy I found the car ads especially funny with new car prices being under $500.
I took a few shots of the covers, there are loads of other pieces as well but didn't shoot those. I guess my main question is are they rare or valuable at all? My plan is to frame some of these and keep or hang up.
These magazines are still quite common, and not a real strong market for them, pop up at flea markets and antique shops quite a bit. A Saturday Evening Post in good condition is worth around 5 dollars. These are just covers so I can't imagine them holding any monetary value at all.
Remember, there were millions of issues printed.
The condition of the images, the rarity of an issue, the topic
of the image & as written above, what the market will bear
will dictate the value. Maybe once the economy gets better people
will have money for more hobbies.
Welcome to Historum , Tibbsport. As the others have said, they aren't too terribly rare, so if you are trying to move them, you will need to find someone who is specifically looking for certain issues...like comic books. Have you taken a look at Ebay to see if any of them are moving at a decent price?
