The Causes of most wars are best divided into immediate and underlying. the immediate causes are flashpoints that boil over into armed conflict,

What about the so called "Pig War" in 1859?

As for I remember, that war [with warships involved!] started because of a pig "migrating" from British territories to American territories ...

Although of course the role of the bucket is very likely a later mythical addition. Still, fits the genre.

After reading about pigs and dogs im more than happy to believe that an oaken bucket became war booty.
