It's of course no misuse; he simply expanded it to its more general sense, i.e. any armed intervention.

Yup, in a rather stringent & careful way.

How did the US invade 80 countries? Iraq, Afganistan, Vietnam, Granada, Haiti, Panama, Cambodia, Lebanon, North Korea, South Korea. Phillippines, Cuba, Canada, Mexico in 19th century. A bunch in WWI and WWII, Japan, Germany, France, Italy, Holland, Belgium and some others. Then a lot of of minor invasions in the western hemisphere in the early 20th century. I would like to see the whole list. It's a lot, but hard to believe it is 80 countries.

Ah don't flatter yourself, you probably know as well as me that the British directly or indirectly killed these headhunting cannibals.

Well, the French and the Germans have invaded pretty much all of Europe at one point or another, and those are the only bits that count, right?

So that doesn't constitute a misuse? It strikes me as being thoroughly misleading. If a few troops are sent into a country for a time to achieved a limited objective, that is hardly an invasion as one would normally understand the term. The fact is that we wouldn't even be talking about this here if he hadn't made a sensationalistic claim!

Don't know about all of these, but Iran 1953, Guatemala 1954, and Chile 1973 were coups. Iran was originally Britain's idea and Chile there was support in the military, not just a US coup. How did the US invade Egypt in 1956? The US pressure Britain, France, and Israel to get out and the USSR to stay out. Iraq 1958 and China 1958 were warnings not to invade Kuwait and Taiwan respectively, not invasions at all. The US supported forces in Angola, but didn't invade it. The list of legitimate invasions is long, but a lot of these are not invasions.

Laycock is using a pretty broad definition of 'invasion'

It's a good list;; the own methodology ostensibly exponentially improves while talking about the invasions by other powers.

You may add this one
