The merchant of Venice

If you look at Switzerland, you'll see a state that has existed continuosly since the middle-ages - sure, the dimension of the country has changed, the political system has evolved, the culture of the population is much different etc but today switzerland has a direct link with its past.

That's not the true for many contemporany countries. What type of disappeared states would you like to see today (evolved to match today society, though)?

Possible example of what I mean are pharohs' egypt, the knights of malta, the byzantine empire etc

Let's just bring back the Byzantine empire.

For my own country I would like to bring back

Mauryan Empire (which ruled most of the India, Pakistan, Bangladesh , Nepal and Afghanistan)

Chola empire (South Indian dynasty which conquered most of the South east Asia)

And for the world,

I would like to bring back Carthage, Byzantine empire, Novgorod republic or Kievan Rus.

Aztec empire also comes in mind, proveided that they abandon the human sacrifice.

The state is still there, in a form or an other ... anyway I think that Ancient Egypt wasn't the modern one [I see this quite evident].
