Re: Online resources for researching history

www.archive.org also has a lot of old books that Project Gutenberg doesn't. In fact, search results will include books on Project Gutenberg so you can search both at the same time.

Re: Online resources for researching history

Should have put this one up already;

http://marxists.org/

All the major works of most major 'Marxist/Socialist' theorists online on a single site. The sheer volume of labour involved in putting this site together is staggering and it was all apparently done by hundreds of volunteers. The layout is very manageable too - almost the entire corpus of Marx's writings can be accessed in a flash + the complete works of Luxembourg, Kautsky, the Frankfurt School and hundreds of other key figures.

Even 20 yrs ago this would have been considered preposterous science fiction. Research is truly emerging from the Dark Ages.

Enjoy.

The Online Medieval and Classical Library (omacl.org) contains a lot of cool primary texts from ancient and medieval authors.

British Civil Wars, Commonwealth and Protectorate, 1638-60

Great site for the interconnected English Civil War, Confederate War in Ireland and the Scottish Civil War c. 1640-50. User-friendly, Wiki-type layout hyperlinks to concise summaries of key events, terms & bios and wherever possible gives off-site link to important primary documents; Pym's speeches, Henderson's "Bishop's Doom", text of the Scottish Covenant etc.

Not history, but still seems quite valuable to me.
