Just what the title says. Post a story about an event that might be little known but still changed history! It can be about an invention, place, person, or anything. | | |

ive got three: The American Revolution
americans aside, this war proved to the world that colonies, conquered nations, and overseas territories could stand up to monarchies like britain. notice that very soon after, dozens of other revolutions around the world took place, like the greek war of independence, in which greece won against the ottoman empire World War I
by this time, alot of nations were out there, seperate from the major empires like britain and the ottomans. it seems to me, though, that the major results of this war were the beginning of the abolition of monarchies and a break in america's isolationism World War II
this is when monarchies around the world were abolished. irrc, the only remaining true monarchies in teh world are in the UAE, but im almost certain that im wrong on that matter

Henry VIII's first divorce. Although it may not seem like it changed history: he married the mother of Elizabeth I, who had no children and was succeeded by James I, whose son, Charles I, was executed by Oliver Cromwell, thus beginning the Cromwellian Interregnum. This was the first time that republican rule had been tried in millenia and the first time that a commoner had executed a monarch. Had it not been for this, Louis XVI of France and Marie Antoinette might have lived, and the czars might have merely been exiled. As well, it proved that kings were not great, infallible figures who could not be successfully resisted. Since the American colonists knew that it was possible to resist a king, they did, and therefore, had Henry VIII not divorced Catherine of Aragon, there might not be a USA, and at the least there would likely be a different ruler of England. As well, Prince William of Wales, 2nd in line for the English throne, and his brother, would probably not exist and definitely not be in line for the throne, as if Elizabeth had not existed, then Mary I would likely have been succeeded by Philip II of Spain, and James I would not have become King of England, and James' grandson, Charles II, was an ancestor of Diana, William's mother, through two illegitimate sons. And if he had been captured by Oliver Cromwell they definitely would not exist.

An obvious one from me:
Julius Caesar's crossing of the Rubicon. He was't the first Roman general to march on the city, but his march was the most influential. Many scholars have labelled Caesar's defiant crossing as the most signifigant event in the history of Ancient Rome.
