That film was so horribly off the mark.

.
The Apollo Astronauts were quarantined for about two to three weeks after they returned from the Moon - "just in case."

We may have accidentally sent Earth bacteria to Mars;

from wiki:
"Bacillus safensis could have possibly been transported to the planet Mars on spacecraft Opportunity and Spirit in 2004."

The Phoenix Lander carried a disc containing the text of HG Wells' book plus the Orson Welles broadcast, the text of Ray Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles and Kim Stanley Robinson's Green Planet Mars

Then we, the voracious predators that we are, have paid back the Martians and when we arrive they will all be dead and we can take their stuff.

During WW2, British scientists were stunned to hear Hitler claim that he had weapons which would "blind and deafen" his enemies. In a panic, the British turned the problem over to the scientist, to see what this weapon could be. Some kind of death ray?

The scientists got nowhere. In the end, one of them let his linguist friend see an exact transcript of Hitler's speech.

What they really needed all along was someone who could speak German properly....

Hitler had said "dazzle and amaze".
