Ancient History Fiction recommendations

I am looking for ancient history fiction books that really bring that time back to life.

So far my favorites are First Man in Rome series by Colleen McCullogh and Mika Waltari Egyptian.

I read some of the newer authors writing about Rome but although they use Rome setting their books are lifeless hack and slash novels that's could be placed on Moon with little difference (Ben Kane and some others)

Any good fiction books in the line of two unmentioned that are actually based on factual research but use fiction as vehicle for great storytelling. I also liked Bernard Cornwall Saxon Stories although they are placed in Middle Ages

I just finished Gore Vidal's Julian a few weeks ago; an enormously enjoyable book about the Roman Emperor of the same name. Vidal's Creation is also a pleasurable romp, though some of the historical scholarship he used to write the book has since been surpassed and superseded.

Mary Renault's oeuvre of novels set in Ancient Greece is absolutely marvelous, tracing its way from the Peloponnesian War in The Last of the Wine to the Wars of the Diadochi in Funeral Games.

Robert Harris has written three or four books set around the time of the late Roman Republic, and I've heard good things about Christian Jacq's books set in pharaonic Egypt.

Currently enjoying Lindsey Davis' Falco- and Flavia Albia- series. Sleuthing in Flavian Empire (mainly Rome, but also abroad)!
