A People's History of the United States [8 v.] (McGraw-Hill, 19761987)

No notes. We don't need no stinkin' distractions.

No biblio. This is Mister Smith's narrative (eight volumes of story telling)

Very readable. Better than heavy-scholar Oxford works.

Full disclosure: I am selling all my Oxford book stock. I prefer more readable and American.
