Novels taking place in Ancient Mesopotamia?

I was wondering if any of you could suggest historical novels taking place in Ancient Mesopotamia? Not any specific period, I just want it to be an interesting read. Thanks!

If you don't mind something in the Roman period, try Harry Sidebottom's Fire in the East. It tells the story of Ballista, a Roman general defending Dura Europos in Mesopotamia from Emperor Shapur II of Persia and his army. It was very historically accurate, and I enjoyed it greatly.

Oh thanks Salah ad-Din!I thought I would get no suggestions on that. I will keep the book in mind. If you say it was interesting and accurate I trust you

It seems there are no books taking place in ancient Sumer then? At least perfoming a quick search was not successful, so that's why I thought I'd better ask you guys on historum.

I believe there are several novels based on the Epic of Gilgamesh, but I haven't found let alone read any of them

It's not a recent novel, and might bring you to the very begginings of expressing in written language the great Stories of the time. It's a novel but perhaps the oldest one... Why not try the Epic Of Gilgamesh itself ?

I googled it. Do you mean this one:

I seems it is set in Ancient Egypt if you do.

I googled it. There seems that at least a series of children's novel based on the Epic of Gilgamesh does exist.
