'Big History' of the Ancient World?

Does such a work exist? I'm interested in reading a Big History of the ancient world, something that chronologically covers the formation of civilisation to the fall of Rome.

I will be studying an undergraduate Bachelor of Ancient History in 5 months, specifically focusing on Egypt, however a general knowledge of the ancient world would add to the context of my focus.

Thanks.

Well, Tolstoy was big on Big History and rightfully condemned by the academic community for it. It's just another word for generalizing.

Edit not Tolstoy haha. Just a sec. Brainfart. TOYNBEE, is who I was thinking of.

I recently read: "History of Western Civilization" by William H. Mc Neill (6th edition)
Also "The Rise of the West" by the same author. I think these two books would be worth reading. I know I enjoyed them and learned quite a bit.

For a basic introduction to history throughout the ages, buy a good encyclopedia of history, then you can see a basic timeline and some new historical interests may catch your eye.

Susan Wise Bauer has published two books recently, one on ancient civilizations and one on Medieval. She is very readable. Don't know whether she intends one on the modern world yet.

History of the Ancient World: From the Earliest Accounts to the Fall of Rome

History of the Medieval World: From the Conversion of Constantine to the First Crusade.

I read both her books. What I liked was the fact that she included quite a bit on India and China, which most World histories generally do not. I believe she is working on a new book about the Renaissance and plans to keep on up to present day eventually.
