I need a scholarly book on US diplomacy/ foriegn policy - Recommendatons please!

I already searched this section of the forum and did some searches. I couldn't find anything - No hate posts about searching etc.

I'm taking a class on the history of US diplomacy. I need to write a book review on a scholarly book about US diplomacy/ foreign policy.

My prof defines scholarly as anything published by an academic publisher like oxford, palgraves, greedwood etc.

I personally wouldn't mind reading something about Afghanistan/ Iraq.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

Being neither one who studies the American or even the modern world, I can't comment on the quality of this book, but I did see it in a used bookstore yesterday.

Amazon.com: Major Problems in American Foreign Relations, Volume II: Since 1914 (Major Problems in American History) (9780547218236): Dennis Merrill, Thomas Paterson: Books

The memoirs of Cordell Hull might be an interesting choice-particularly in view of the lead-up to Pearl Harbor.

Diplomacy by Henry Kissinger.
The book begins with a comparsion between Teddy Roosevelt and Wilson, then to the treaty of Westphila, then the concert of Europe and how Clauswitzs contained France after the Napleon, then to 1850 and the rest is chronological. (The first 1/3 of the book is European, but from Woodrow Wilson entering WW1, its all American)

There , 3 posts and no one mentioned the difficulty in finding one , if people had replied in that vein i am sure it would have been in a humourous fashion , because it is funny you cant find anything , and has nothing at all to do with hating/loving Americans,

Why is everyone so touchy these days ??

There is no need to reply , but if you do , please be Diplomatic .

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but I'm reading a very good book about this topic:

From Colony to Superpower: U.S. Foreign Relations since 1776 (Oxford History of the United States): George C. Herring: 9780199765539: Amazon.com: Books

Comprehensive and enjoyable to read. I definitely recommend it.

Yes, that's the one to start with. Not only does it go into all the major and many of the minor issues of foreign affairs throughout U.S. history, the 30 page bibliographical essay at the end of the book discusses a couple hundred important books on U.S. foreign policy for further research.
