Books on Manifest Destiny

Do anyone have any recommendations on this subject?

I want a balanced constructive view. Nothing too glorifying or too damning.

Manifest Destiny by David S. Heidler - Reviews, Discussion, Bookclubs, Lists

This one looks rather promising as far as content goes. Only one rating, though. There are others as well. Just thought this one looked nice.

On this subject I'm currently reading the following:

"What Hath God Wroght: The Transformation of America, 1815-1848" by Daniel Walker Howe, 3rd book in the Oxford history of the United States.

Seems very well documented and so far a pleasure reading.

On the shelves but haven't opened yet are:

"A Country of Vast Designs: James K. Polk, the Mexican War and the Conquest of the American Continent" by Robert W. Merry.

"Lions of the West: Heroes and Villians of the Westward Expansion" by Robert Morgan.

Hope this helps.

Manifest Destiny and Mission isn't too terribly bad, either.

"Lions of the West: Heroes and Villains of the Westward Expansion" by Robert Morgan was a wonderful book! Lots of interesting characters and paths to explore here.

Also, I've heard that "A Country of Vast Designs" by Robert Merry is exceptionally informative.
