Brief Book Reviews: Japanese History

So, there's been a few threads asking for recommendations for books regarding certain parts of Japanese history. I thought it would be helpful to have a thread dedicated to (very) brief book reviews on Japanese history books.

Feel free to review any book you'd like on any period of Japanese history here. For the sake of making it easier to find the right book, I came up with a cute little outline to use for your reviews. (Hopefully, this will cut down on the Novella-type reviews that you come across on the web.)

Title-
Author-
Pages-
Date Published-
Table of Contents-
(This is really an optional one if you don't want to include it. I just find it helpful to have the Table of Contents listed. Gives you a better feel for the book.)
Brief Description-
Knowledge Level- (Basically, how much should the reader already know about Japanese history before reading the book)

Title- Shogun & Daimyo: Military Dictators of Samurai Japan
Author- Tadashi Ehara
Pages- 335
Date Published- 2011
Table of Contents- 1. Introduction 2. History 3. Government 4. Shogun 5. Kamakura Shogun 6. Kamakura Shikken 7. Muromachi Shogun 8. Edo Shogun 9. Daimyo 10. Heian Period 11. Kamakura Period 12. Minoji Gazetteer 23. Family Crests 24. Prefectures 25. Glossary 26. Bibliography 27. Indices
Brief Description- Even though this was written after Daimyo of 1867, it can be described as a prequel to that work. This volume deals with the daimyo that weren''t fortunate enough to make it through to the Tokugawa Period. Ehara organizes this book a bit better than his previous work. Even though I'm not a war gamer, I found the scenarios listed in the Gazetteer sections to be fairly interesting.
