Re: Any movies about John Brown?

Can't help liking JB and thinking what he did was heroic. God was it dumb though.

If he had taken the place and left quickly with the arms and delivered them to the slave revolt, there's a strategy, but he just sat there and waited to be surrounded.

He freed slaves but not as equals. He made whites in his army officers and slaves sergeants. So a little inbuilt predudice remained.

Yes, but it was in response to raids by the Border Ruffians who were attacking towns that they thought might support a Free State. JB comes under the microscope, I don't know why, there were Border Ruffians whose names we know too (John W Reid for instance) who were no less violent and crazy

You're talking about "Santa Fe Trail" <1940> starring Errol Flynn, Olivia de Havilland, Ronald Reagan & Raymond Massey as John Brown......&

"Seven Angry Men" <1955> with Massey again playing Brown.

Osama Bin Laden was and is rich. His family has a very big building company. Osama Bin Laden is calm, he accepted the Americans help in fighting off the Russians, but he still held them as enemies, even if secretly.

Now .... what do we remember Osama Bin Laden today for? For not sitting around and taking action?

No. For killing thousands of people. John Brown didnt even kill 10 people I think. Though if he had been calmer and richer, I guess he could have gotten up in the thousands or maybe hundreds of deaths. Too bad he didn't, or else alot of innocent people, civilians, and Southerners, heck he might've turned eastwards and attacked kentucky and the northern slave states. Alot of people would have died. Would've made you happy eh Ritocal?
People die daily. The brave ,for what they believe. Who is innocent?

Actually, John Brown did spark a revolution. It was called the Civil War. The South was scared to death after Brown's raid on Harper's Ferry Arsenal. They had rumours flying of slave revolts and attacks by abolitionists. This attack helped cement the belief among Southerners that they could never live in peace with the increasingly abolitionist Union, which triggered their sucession. And that sucession triggered the Civil War. John Brown not only gave his own life, but the lifes of several sons, in the abolitionist battle. He certainly wasn't insane. His mistake was in thinking slaves would grab rifles and join in the rebellion, with the seizure of the arsenal at Harper's Ferry. But he found that people who have long been slaves, don't know how to be free men. I think we still see this same phenomonon today with the progeny of former slaves. They want to look up to Uncle Sam for their salvation and support.

The comments about Osama Bin Laden are way off base. Osama was a CIA asset with the code name Tim Osmond. The CIA was still in contact with him right up to 911. Osama had nothing to do with the attacks of 911, as he said on 2 occassions in the first few months after 911. 911 was totally an inside job of the USA military industrial complex, as has been well proven. The CIA released a video of a supposed Osama taking credit for 911, in December of 2001. The actor playing Osama is clearly not the real Osama. Most intelligence experts believe Osama died in late 2001. He was reported to be suffering from kidney failure, and this is the mechanism by which most say he died. It is possible the CIA took him out back then, though, as they wanted to use him as a dupe for 911, and they couldn't have him contiinueing to release statements that he had nothing to do with it.

I don 't know of any movies about him, but I remember he made a brief appearance in a film called The Skin Game that I saw some years ago, in which he disrupted a slave auction.

He features prominently in George Macdonald Fraser's novel Flashman and the Angel of the Lord, in which the raid on Harper's Ferry is described. he was a remarkable man.
