Only as obstacles to hinder air raids over cities and posts, I think.

I just checked it on Wikipedia. The US used airships to protect ships against submarines, often as observation platforms and escort duties.

I'd like to see something about the revolutions in Europe in 1830 and 1848.

A million times yes to Noor Inayat Khan. I think there was a documentary made about Khan a while ago.... The women (and men) who spied in France as couriers and W/Ts were so brave, and their stories are so interesting.

It is so weird because I was just reading/researching on the SOE last night.

Violet Szabo? There is a movie about her life. It's called "Carve Her Name With Pride", starring Virginia McKenna. There's also a biography with the same title. I remember them both from my school days.

I'm not sure, but I think there's a link to it on YouTube.

a biography of Vauban, the peasant orphan who rose to be a Marshal in the army of Louis XIV. Greatest military engineer of his time, perhaps always.

a movie about the Battle of Cowpens ('The Cow Pens'), in which an ad-hoc force of regulars, mountain men and green recruits, under the leadership of the great Daniel Morgan, crushes the foul limeys under Banastre Tarleton.

a biography of Frontenac (Comte du), French administrator who almost put an empire together in the Americas, ultimately failing from lack of support from Paris. (I believe the Canadian Navy named a ship after him.)

I would like to see a film made of the Alexandrine civil war and Battle of the Nile in 47 BC.

While the Caesar and Cleopatra story has been told very many times in films and TV shows, they concentrate almost entirely on the love story, yet there is a great military story here, from the killing of Pompey to the death of Ptolemy XIII. The siege of Caesar in Alexandria is worth a film in itself, let alone the entire war.

Bartolome de las Casas...I would love to see a movie about him. He was an amazing historical character that's only beginning to become more well known. It would be great if they did it right. Hollywood so often botches stories of faith, and Hollywood botches history too. If they got the history right on this it would clear up such a lot of stupidity going around. If they got the faith wrong (tried to make him out to be an agnostic or something), I might have to throw something at the screen. (UG...on second thought, not sure if I trust Hollywood with this story).

A movie about Hatshupsut would be fun! Another really interesting character from history.

A movie about midwives in, oh, just about any time in history. So, we have one for the 1950s/60s in Britian...and I know it's probably so good because it was based on real memoirs. But midwifery earlier would be fun to explore (ancient times, middle ages, Victorian england). It was a job for women that has been around so long and Call the Midwife showed me how interesting it could be seeing a community from that perspective.

I think cool would be like the Battle of Lepanto and vienna, the Roman punic wars, the Renaissence battles and so on ...
