I was supposed to, but my girlfriend is studying for midterms right now. We got distracted by a game of strip flashcards.

Saw it Friday. Superb WWII film. Eastwood balanced the horrific fighting with the surviving soldiers being used to raise money via war bonds back home.
At the end of the film, no one stood up or applauded. We just sat there and watched the credits, which are accompanied by photos from the actual battle of Iwo Jima. The fact that the photos could have been stills from the movie really showed how well Eastwood depicted the battle.
My first thought at the end was that I was glad my Dad was in the Air Corps. Being an infantryman in the South Pacific was hell on earth.
My advice--go see it in the theatre.

I heard that Eastwood is coming out with a new version of this movie in February... it will be told from the Japanese perspective.

Good movie but it can leave your mind stunned by what those wonderful men did just a short 60 years ago and what they experienced. What a great generation of Americans!

How does it compare with Saving Private Ryan?

I didn't care for this one. I was thinking it was gonna be about Iwo, but it really was more about the exploitation of "heroes".
Now, Sands of Iwo Jima, the bookend film to Flags of Our Fathers, was excellent. Never hear it from the Japanese or German side, so this one was a treat.

Sands of Iwo Jima was incredible. The DVD extras for both movies are worth watching though - can't remember which has the documentary about the filming of the movies, but it's well worth buying the DVD for.

I have it on DvD and I like it. I didnt know about the bond tour at all. I liked t he ending credits because it puts a name and face together.
I also like Letters from Iwo Jima. Two different prespective to the same story.
