Remains of the Day

What were your thoughts?

I loved it, Anthony Hopkins admirably underplayed his role as an emotionally-repressed head butler, denying his love with adoring maid, Emma Thompson.

Christopher Reeve, Edward Fox and Hugh Grant also put in great performances during an era of Appeasement shortly before WWII.

It's a moving tale of lost love, and it's one of my faves.

Great movie, but not one I can watch at any given moment.

I recall that as one of several in a series of films with a very repressed Anthony Hopkins. I have always been fascinated by the sort of slow, emotionally repressed movies that deal with class relations in Britain, so I managed to sit through this one and actually though that it was pretty good. Somehow "repressed" seems to come naturally in a discussion of these movies. It's safe to say that they were not made in Italy.

I like the movie also for it's portrayal of restraint.

One of the great English novels. Ishiguro had a masterly eye for the crumbling institutions of vassaldom; it's logic, it's failures and it's effects on those who attempt to transition out of it.

I absolutely loved that movie! Great acting and beautiful atmosphere!
Perfect recreation of the late 1920s or early 1930s? I really enjoyed it!
