Re: Inglorious basterds - Italian with Southern US accent

This movie was hit and miss for me, there are certain scenes that are just absolutely brilliant and show that Tarantino has the same (or even better) mastery of dialogue and tension: the opening scene with Colonel Landa, the Beer Hall scene are two of them. Basically anything with Landa in it, just a superb actor (Christoph Waltz)

I must be the only person that found this film to be ridiculously overrated. I couldn't wait for it to be over.
Yeah, I also think it's overrated, but that's what I think of Tarantino overall; flashes of brilliance but essentially a poseur.

I thought "Inglorious Basterds" was like the curate's egg.("parts of it were excellent")

I love some of the small touches, such as calling Pitt's character "Aldo Ray"

Aldo_Ray Aldo_Ray

PS:The original 1978 Italian film is worth a glance. Tarantino claimed his film was in part an homage to the older film.

No, there are two of us here. With exception of few good scenes, it was complete waste of my time.

I pretty much agree. While I can watch Pulp Fiction any time it pops up, his remaining catalogue seems like...meh. Everything just seems to be clipped from another film, then called a homage.

Yeah, Kill Bill I think was the ultimate expression of that whole homage nonsense. Terrible terrible films.

This made the entire film worth it for me. There's no way I could see that performance and dialogue and not come away liking the film very much.

I didn't even think it was the best film of the year (District 9 was my choice), but this made it a very good film in my opinion.

when you mix German, Italian and Brad's Pitt Texas accent, you can only get a hilarious, epic scene like this.

It is so funny to listen to Italian, spoken by a hypothetical "redneck" "hillbilly".
Cmon guys, you got it all wrong. Brad wasnt playing a Texan...he was a playing a Tenneseean. From Maynardsville Tennessee, no less. Listen closely...

Of course, Texans do sound much like Tennesseans, but that is just because early Texas was settled by a large number of Tennesseans.

We do a stronger accent on the "D's", BTW, and we have a deeper, harsher pronunciation of some things, with a clipped, nasal on the others (we got that from the Cherokee in the 1700s).

Other than that...Im like you. It was a dumb movie!

Of course, Maynardsville is down in Union county, and we mountain folks in Johnson county consider that to be almost the lowlands, and plumb too close to civilization to suit us. Our accent sometimes needs translators.

I am not Italian, but I know how to pronounce Italian words like Arrivederci or buongiorno, and the american accent sounds very very funny
