Yeah....
The good news is that a pretty Irish actress will star in this film
The bad news is that the title is misleading. It is not really about the Byzantine Empire. It is called Byzantium, but I don't know why....

Well, ok for the actress then !
I know that there was something like "east of Byzantium" but it did look like a 300-style movie, and it was more on Armenia or something like that in fact.
I think we should organize a lobby to have more movies on certain periods of history (in the ancient era, there are only movies on Rome, and some -but much less- on Greece or Egypt).

A movie about the Hellenistic kingdoms is essential!

I think the Byzantine Empire was featured in The Message briefly.

Well, since this movie is about the muslim conquests, I suspect that the byzantine empire is not shown in its full glory...

It really does look like '300', though, minus the higher production values. | | |

A cut-scene from the Bulgarian movie "Khan Asparuh" (aka "681 - Glory of the khan"), the full Bulgarian version. The movie was made for the 1981 jubilee "1300 years since the creation of Bulgaria". It has absolutely no computer effects, all the actors are real (around 50 000 extras, to be concrete)!
This scene in particular shows the council of the emperor and his generals, as well as the speeches of the two rulers.

Would you like to see such a movie getting launched? If yes which period and topic should be chosen for that purpose? | 11th century Byzantium. Covering the era of Basileios II, all the way to Romanus Diogenes and his successor. It should cover the formation of the Varangian Guard and its impact on Byzantium.
