It was good, entertaining, but I was not very impressed with it. I don't like Liam Neeson much, I couldn't imagine him actually being Rob Roy. And I was disappointed because Sir Walter Scott is one of my favourite authors, one of the first I read when I was a child.

I thought Neesam wasn't a bad Roy Roy, he was tall and long armed, like Rob Roy was historically. I wouldn't put Neesam with Hollywood pretty boys unfit to play the part either. Were you hoping for something more obscure, a no-name actor for the part?

Yes, exactly. I wanted someone "unknown", if I may say, someone who would be a "revelation". But, in any case, I am always a little sceptical about films based on books. 90% of the cases fail, and although "Rob Roy" was not an utter failure, it was not a success either.
As for "Hollywood pretty boys", you are so true, NomadBard! I wouldn't like to mention names, but is it not time they withdraw from the epic genre and do something more suitable for them...When I remember Brad Pitt in "Troy", I want to put a fork in my eye! Sorry, I couldn't resist...Horrible!!!

I would put the Hollywood failure rate at movies closer to 99%, gems are extremely rare in that genre. The only real good one I can think of is Amistad, and I speculate with even that, because for a story about black history, Anthony Hopkins is not a real good black lead.

I just now finally watched it. I liked it a lot. Remember when the people were all around the fire and talking about how they were going to get even and Robert got up to talk and explain about how they had only suffered a burnt roof and some cattle killed and so they shouldn't go to an extreme for revenge, he kept saying "Whist, whist." That's how the card game got it's name - no talking is permitted while a hand is being played.

Haven't seen this film in quite a while, but I really enjoyed it. Of course, the plot vastly differs from the book, which I also liked. It's probably a case where if I had read the book first I would have been disappointed, but since I didn't I was able to enjoy both | | |
