Historical documentary recommendations?

I would especially like ones that focus on countries, cultures, or societies as a whole. I think I've seen enough WWII documentaries lol.

Land of the Czars (or Tsars) was a great, and the last, History Channel doc that I've seen.

Also the Gates of Hell documentary on the History Channel was incredibly enticing. Add the Seven Deadly Sins series to that as well.

I've seen many. Must remember!

That's quite a broad ask: anything more in particular? Regions, for instance?

Actually yes. Europe. Oddly, most of what I've studied has had it's focus in the East. Odd for an American at least. Usually our historical focus is on the west.

Documentaries by Bettany Hughes are quite good.

Historical documentary recommendations

I would strongly recommend " A History of Britain" by Simon Schama. There are 15 programmes in the series which start in the Neolithic era, then the Iron Age, The Romans, The Saxon/Viking era, the Norman Conquest, the Middle Ages, the Tudors and then eventually the Victorians finishing with the 20th century.
