The Battle of Borodino in Sergei Bondarchuk's 'War and Peace' (1965); a resolutely ungamorized portrayal of an old pitched battle as a kind of surreal hell. The quality is poor here, but it gives a rough idea:

How about some real war film... John Ford's filming of the real Japanese air attack on Midway. Wilder's Memphis Belle documentary... one of the B-17's shown falling from the sky had one of his cameramen on board.
One scene I have always remembered is a bit obscure to most. It a scene from The Glenn Miller Story starring Jimmy Stewart. His band is giving a public concert in a park in London and had just started "In the Mood" when air raid warnings started blaring. It was a V-1 buzz bomb. Miller kept the band playing as the bomb droned overhead. When the motor cut out, he kept the band softly vamping in the silence until the bomb exploded, then let it rip the iconic swing song full bore. The crowd went nuts. Can't say it really happened, but it was a nice scene.

Gonna stray away from a 'battle' scene and pick two from the same movie: Pirates of Silicone Valley. I cannot find one of the scene with Bill Gates talking with IBM, but its one of those moments that the movie stops and frames the moment, stating that this moment should have been recorded as the moment Microsoft became a giant.
