Most Accurate WW1 Movies

Just watched Joyeux Noel and it's the first ww1 movie I've seen, Im more interested in WW2 and Vietnam movies but this was a great movie and was just wondering what other members recommendations would be.

So help me out, thanks

All Quiet on the Western Front

Really, though, I have my doubts that a truly accurate depiction of WWI will ever be possible. Compared to WWI, both WWII and Vietnam were very clean, almost sterile, wars. While the opening sequence of Saving Private Ryan is often held up as an example of realistic battle scenes, it is also barely acceptable to a large part of the audience. This is, of course, entirely intentional as was the fact that it was only a relatively small part of the film. It was designed to highlight the horrors of war. The problem is that for all the brutal violence and gore, the D-Day landings were nowhere near as horrific as WWI. Most audiences would be absolutely revulsed at just the day-to-day lives of soldiers enduring trench warfare, let alone realistic scenes of something like the Battle of the Somme.

A realistic WWI film is not a war film, it is a horror film and is far too risky a proposition for any major studio to fund.

All Quiet On The Western Front, Gallipoli ,(Australian movie) Saving Private Ryan, Das Boot ,( uncut if possible) Stalingrad, Cross of Iron , The Black Book ,(Dutch,,directed by Paul Verhoeven) Der Untergang, ('Downfall') Full Metal Jacket , Platoon,---- 'Apocalypse Now' is often cited as a great film about Vietnam war.It IS a great a film, but it is an adaptation of Joseph Conrad's 'Heart of Darkness', SET in Vietnam.' ---- Films on The Holocaust form a separate genre in my opinion. ----Below are a few I recommend: Playing For Time , Escape From Sorbibor, Triumph Of The Spirit, The Truce , La vie e Bella (Life Is Beautiful) Schindler's List, The Uprising, The Pianist , Rosenstrasse. -----Apologies; I'm having technical difficulties with my forum posts.--won't pick up paragraphs or the quote function.

I would suggest to watch the first "All quiet on the western front", 1930's version.
It's simple and maybe poor, but its simplicity shows you the horrors of WWI.

Nevermind, the NBN should get a working connection to your billabong.

I would point out, however, and the OP will correct me if I'm wrong, that the OP was looking for good WWI war movies, not a list of all good war movies.

Indeed, ww1 was by far the most horrific of all these wars...

I must watch more WW1 films but from the tiny bit of All the Kings Men I saw and reccomendations of it, it seems to be a very good WW1 film. Must watch the whole version soon. It is also quite accurate as it is a docu-drama.

I saw a really good film once, I forgot what it was called though, probably because I stumbled upon it by accident but ended up watching it all the way through.

Oh, I can't vouch for it's quality, and to be perfectly honest it looks dire, but a new WWI film will be released in a couple of weeks from Steven Spielberg - War Horse.
