Yeah, I remember catching a few episodes about ten years ago.
Not a patch on the first film though.
Never read the book, might give it a go.

The first movie (haven't seen any sequels, didn't know they existed and don't ever plan on watching them) is a modern classic. It is a great satire on a fascistic jingoistic kind of society, and the casting is great, with deliberate effort to find the most harebrained Ken & Barbie types in the roles as the übermenschen.

I haven't read the book, but I have read that it was more intended as a kind of utopia than a satire. If that is true, then the movie is undoubtedly better than the book, and the people that made the decision to turn it into a satire a very gifted lot.

Loved the book, didn't like the film (apart from the laydeez, military chic!), and I played the boardgame to death.

I wondered about that as well. A futuristic Tank or Gunship would have made mincemeat of them damn bugs!

Yes, give me a spoon and I'll join you. The movie is a criminal travesty of a sci-fi classic.
