I'll try to view it when it will be available in Canada, I guess they will air it on PBS/TVO soon.

I like Asbridge, he's a good historian.

have to get back and watch it seriously, i only managed to catch a few minutes and it looked like the presenter was trying to channel Michael Wood!

Which isnt necessarily a bad thing but it did have a very deja vu feel to it!

It was alright, covered most of the ground and topics needed for an understanding of events. Would have been nice for more on Byzantium though. Probably be an episode for the 12th and one for the 13th Century, with the latter broken up to discuss Spain, the Baltic and Cathars etc.

Yeah, its a 3 episode series, at an hour each. Do'able, but as shown by the first one, it has to cut out and reduce certain elements.

Also if it is anything like his book, he will probably spend a very long time on the Third Crusade.

Having seen the second episode I have the horrible feeling that Asbridge is only going to cover 3 crusades, 1st, 3rd and 7th. This is a little disappointing.

Will they be playing this on BBC America anytime soon? Might have to wait for it on PBS. Don't know Asbridge as a historian in-depth, is he really good? I've seen his books but haven't read them - yet.

I imagine they will, its an expensive 3 part documentary, the sort they then pump out on DVD.

He's good, he's one of the new leaders in the field, there are others who have the lead on him though accademicaly, but he writes well and engagingly.
