this is a jack the ripper movie starring johnny depp. it proposes that the queen's doctor was jack the ripper and he was involved with the free masons.
is this just hollywood or was this man ever really considered as a suspect? he supposedly couldn't cure the prince of syphilis and this was the reason he mutilated the women's genitals...

This is one of the theories about who Jack The Ripper was, but I think most Ripperologists discredit this theory.

A great website if you are interested in Jack The Ripper is:
Casebook: Jack the Ripper - Main

My opinion for what it is worth is I think an American was Jack The Ripper: Francis Tumblety. More on him Here.

I enjoyed the film a great deal, and if you get the Alan Moore work that it is based upon, you can find it greatly expanded.

I watched this movie yesterday. It was kinda good only because of Johnny Depp.

Yesterday was also the first time I came across this name 'Jack the Ripper'.

Yeah, the graphic novel is really great, but I guess it is not history (whatever that means...), it is Alan Moore. In the same sense that Watchmen is not about superheroes. Well, it is about them too, but...

Nope. That was the first time. Before that I had come across the name on Historum, but thought it was related to a famous mythological ghost/reaper.

While watching the movie, I came to know that he was actually a Victorian era serial killer, targeting prostitutes.

not only did he target them, he butchered them. there are horrible, graphic pictures on the link in this thread of his victims. what's amazing is that he was never caught because some of the victims were found within 30 minutes of being killed. he was either very lucky or very smart.
there was an american serial killer--gary ridgeway (aka the green river killer) who targeted prostitutes but he didn't mutilate them, afaik..
he killed 71 women over a period of 2 decades but was finally caught..
