Yes absolutely horrible. Nothing really happens. It just seems pointless and slow.

They were trying to portray life as it was then . Silence , incessant wind , hardship , cruelty . Short ,dangerous lives . Used to fighting , they bet champions against each other in fights to the death. Difficult to relate or undertand a realistic movie like that . Is the audience a participant in the story ? Most probably not . I thought it was very well done . Good flic !

I watched this recently. The silence of the characters and lack of any discernible plot or point to anything really ruined the movie for me. I thought it could have been good with a decent script. No I don't think it's realistic that people used to just stand around in silence.

I think The Vikings with Kirk Douglas was much better.

I was reading this thread the other day before I joined the forum. I truly loved this film! I thought it was amazing. It was very much an artistic film and definately not for everyone. Whether its true or not? I doubt it.

Not many films are based on every actual event. Some we are not even sure exactly what took place.

It is entirely fictional, it isn't based on any historical event. However that does not detract from its quality. I think it is quite good.

Exactly my point. It occurs throughout the film, but it isn't the only factor I base my judgement. It is so cold and lifeless I felt nothing from watching it.
